SENEDIA Awards Five $2,000 Scholarships
New England Students Pursue Careers in Defense
MIDDLETOWN, RI – SENEDIA, the Alliance for Defense Tech, Talent, and Innovation, announced today five scholarship winners who will receive $2,000 to advance their studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
SENEDIA’s long-standing scholarship program supports undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing careers in defense.
“With more than 407,000 defense jobs in New England alone, students on a defense industry career pathway are set up for good paying, rewarding careers with incredible growth potential,” said Chief Executive Officer Molly Donohue Magee. “In addition to positioning our young people for success, we’re also creating a stronger workforce pipeline that will allow the industry to thrive and grow.”
The SENEDIA Scholarship is open to New England residents enrolled in STEM programs, and applicants are judged in part on a 500-word essay describing their interest in a STEM career in the defense industry.
Meet the 2025 STEM Scholarship Winners:
- Nathaniel Dobley, Worcester Polytechnic Institute: Dobley is a rising junior studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. A resident of North Stonington, Conn, Dobley participated in internships at both General Dynamics Electric Boat and EaglePicher.
- Garrett Kemper, University of Rhode Island: Kemper is a rising senior studying Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Applied Mathematics. A resident of Portsmouth, RI, he is a two-time intern at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center.
- Anoop Kiran, Brown University: Kiran has a degree in Aerospace Engineering from the State University of New York and is a Ph.D. candidate at Brown studying Engineering (Fluids & Thermal Sciences) and Computer Science (Robotics). A resident of Riverside, Kiran is a Barry Goldwater Scholar and was also a Spacecraft Mechanical Engineering intern at NASA JPL.
- Ian Tinney, Yale University: Tinney is a rising junior studying Computer Science and Cognitive Science. A resident of Mystic, Conn., Tinney participated in a computer science and electrical engineering internship at McLaughlin Research Company.
2025 SENEDIA Langevin Cybersecurity Scholarship
- Mubariz Saeed, University of Rhode Island: Saeed has a degree in Computer Science and is a Cybersecurity Master’s candidate expected to graduate in 2027. A resident of Barrington, Mubariz participated in an internship for the National Institute for Undersea Vehicle Technology and received letters of recommendation from a Rite-Solutions Software Engineer and the URI Co-Director of the Center for Cyber-Physical Intelligence and Security (CYPHER).
